UK Games Expo

A recap of our UKGE weekend

Over the weekend, Lorenzo and I attended the UK Games Expo. It was my first games expo ever, and Lorenzo’s first time at UKGE. It was absolutely brilliant!

Day One

On Day One we bought some board games for ourselves including:

  • A Gentle Rain
  • Oh My, Pigeons!
  • Fairy Ring
  • Happy Home
  • Garden Rush
  • Outer Space
  • Quoridor

We wandered around the different halls and tested a few solo games at the Djeco booth and really enjoyed them. Here, while playing Sologic Space Orbit, I learned I am not the best at placing shapes on the board 😂 I will have to practice my skills. “Patterns Lorenzo” got his Path Path Logic board done in no time.

Lorenzo bought some Flesh and Blood Playmats and we also enjoyed looking at some brilliant artwork.

Later that evening, we attended a Daggerheart RPG session. This was only my second time playing an RPG, and at nighttime my imagination and ability to learn was limited. Lorenzo really enjoyed it, and we are planning to sell it in our shop, so keep an eye out for it!

By the end of the day, we’d walked over 15,000 steps and we were quite tired, but ready for Day Two.

Day Two

We were a bit more strategic on Day Two, and planned out ahead of time what we wanted to do. We went to check out Misfit Hobbies, and played a new RPG that they will release later this year. This was the first time I feel like I fully understood an RPG, as it was more visual for me. It’s a brilliant solo game which is exactly what I was looking for for our shop. Imagine sitting down with a cup of coffee on your lunch break, and enjoying a solo game. ❤️ This is one of my visions for Otter space. So keep and eye out for their stock, coming to our shop soon! (We also got to try one of their mocktails and it was fab!!!)

Next we checked out Smart Games. They are similar to Djeco and produce solo logic games. Again, I realised I need some practice here, and Lorenzo whipped right through them. That being said, they were absolutely brilliant.

My favourite was Cats in Boxes. You start with a set pattern, and move the pieces one by one until all the cats are placed in boxes. Not only is it adorable, but it’s a great solo brain game for all ages. We will be placing a Smart Games order this week, so keep an eye out!

At this stage we were tired, so spent the rest of the afternoon playing games in the Family Zone. First, we played A Gentle Rain. It was one of the souvenirs I bought for myself, and I couldn’t wait until I got home to play it. Check out the video on our social media channels to see how the game works. We are looking for a supplier for it.

Then we played Gloomies. To say we are now obsessed with it is an understatement. I REALLY wish we had space to bring it home with us. But we will 💯 try to stock this one too.

It’s so incredibly fun, beautiful, and unique. You grow flowers from the bottom up and collect orders. Once the bottom grid is full of flowers, you then work your way from top to bottom to pick the flowers and fulfil orders. The person with the most points wins. We loved the fact that the game reverses itself, and then is basically cleaned up by the time you’re done.

We went home a few hours later with our goodies. We were so delighted to meet different vendors and suppliers, play fun games, and get new ideas.

Up next… Gaelcon!
