FAQs

What is Otter space?

Otter space: games & community is a new Local Game Store (LGS) and board game café. The company was founded in November 2024 by Lorenzo & Amy.

What is a Local Game Store and board game café?

A Local Game Store is a place that is a mix of retail and community use. LGS's are the local experts for all things games and accessories! Pay-and-play space is available for people to come and play casually, in competitions and tournaments, or in special events and activities.

A board game café is somewhere where you can sit down, enjoy some food, and relax and play a game. We will not have hot food, at least to start, but we have delicious pastries, amazing coffee, and snacks.

Retail wise, we deal in tradable card games (TCGs), boardgames, role playing games (RPGs), and accessories. We also have a good variety of sensory toys, puzzles, activity books, figurines, and more!

Do I have to play games or can I just come in for a coffee?

You're very welcome to just come in for a coffee or a treat- no pressure to play games at all :) You can sit at any table in the shop that you'd like, though we highly recommend the lovely window seats with the free puzzles and an outside view.

Can you tell me more about when and where you will open?

We opened on the 7th of October, 2025. We are located in Holmpatrick Shopping Centre on Shenick Rd in Skerries (K34 YK09). We are the dark blue door to the left of C&T Supermarket.

Can you tell me more about the shop?

We have playing tables in the main area, surrounded by retail shelves with board games, TCGs, puzzles, and sensory toys for sale. We also have an area for people to sit and drink a coffee, and hopefully stay and play too :)

There is a book corner with gift books, graphic novels, puzzle and activity books, fiction, and non-fiction for all ages. We quite love the create your own adventure books!

A sensory-friendly space is also available. It is a quieter, calmer space with dimmable lighting, and a selection of fun lights for people to enjoy a more comforting place to play games.

We have a small room in the back for RPG sessions, and next to it we have a public toilet.

Our goal is to have a friendly and suitable space for everyone, whether you need a comforting spot to play a game alone, a table to play with others, or a quieter space.

Will you have sensory-friendly hours?

We don't have sensory-friendly hours, per se. In general, we don't play music in the shop, the coffee machine is a little separate from the main floor (so hopefully a bit quieter), and staff will always be easily identifiable. If a quieter and darker space is needed, we are happy to offer the sensory room. Our goal is to work with As I Am to gain autism-friendly status.

A sensory toy basket will always be available for people to use while in the shop too :)

We also hold sensory-friendly events, such as neurodivergent adult coffee meetups.

If you come into the shop and something isn't quite right for you, please let us know and we are happy to try to accommodate you in whatever way we can.

What are your opening hours?

Our hours are:

Monday-Tuesday: Closed

Wednesday-Friday: 1pm-10pm

Saturdays & Sundays: 11am-6pm

How does online shopping work?

We currently offer click & collect in our Shop in Skerries.

We don't do deliveries at the moment, but we may in the future👀

What if I want a product you don't have?

We are a new shop, so please let us know if there is something you would like us to try to find for you that we don't currently have. We will do our best to get it!

What TCG competitions will you have when you open?

For now, we plan to offer Flesh and Blood, Riftbound, Sorcery, and Magic: The Gathering.  Yu-Gi-Oh! will be coming soon.

Which RPGs will you play in the shop?

We will try many :) We will start with one-shots, and if there is enough interest we will do some campaigns. Keep an eye on our events page to see what RPGs we will have in the shop.

What games will you sell?

We currently have a wide variety of board games in stock available for purchase here!

We also have TCGs and RPGs.

Will you have any books or comics?

Yes! We have a selection of books, activity books, and comic books available here.

Will you have any programs or events for children?

Absolutely! Staff are in the process of completing garda vetting, so children's programs are not immediately available. We are planning to do an after school board game club and D&D sessions as soon as we can. In the meantime, children are of course welcome to participate in board game pay-and-play with a parent or guardian supervising. We will also hold family and parent / child events.

What program or events will you have for adults?

We will have D&D, trading card competitions and tournaments, casual board game mixers, neurodivergent meetups, senior meetups, learn-to-play events, play to win competitions, and more!

Can I pay by cash?

Please note that we are a cashless facility, and only accept credit or debit card payments or Revolut transfers.

Will you have Pokémon?

We definitely plan to sell Pokémon, but they've been quite difficult for us to get our hands on at the moment (it's been hard to catch them all ;)

We will set up leagues eventually too and will keep you updated.
