FAQs

What is Otter space?

Otter space: games & community is a new Local Game Store (LGS) and board game café. The company was founded in November 2024 by Lorenzo & Amy, and we opened our doors in October 2025.

What is a Local Game Store and board game café?

A Local Game Store is a place that is a mix of retail and community use. LGS's are the local experts for all things games and accessories! Pay-and-play space is available for people to come and play casually, in competitions and tournaments, or in special events and activities.

A board game café is somewhere where you can sit down, enjoy some food, and relax and play a game. We will not have hot food, at least to start, but we have delicious pastries, amazing coffee, unbeatable hot chocolates, tea, and snacks.

Retail wise, we deal in tradable card games (TCGs), boardgames, role playing games (RPGs), dice, books, puzzles, and accessories. We also have a good variety of sensory toys, figurines, gifts, and more!

Do I have to pay to sit and have a coffee?

We operate like any regular cafe. You're very welcome to just come in for a coffee, sit anywhere in the shop that you'd like, and enjoy your treats! We highly recommend the lovely window seats with the free puzzles and an outside view.

Is there a charge to come in the shop?

We hear this question a lot! And because there are many different layers to our shop, I'll explain our model.

There is no cost or entry fee to come into the shop; we operate like a typical retail outlet and a typical cafe. In other words you can shop, sit and have a coffee, use the toilet, or just have a chat with staff or others. We even offer 3 games per day that you can sit and play for free, and we have free printed puzzles that you can complete in the shop.

We do, however, operate a standard local game store / board game café model, which means we operate on a "table fee" basis (cost per person) when it comes to games. The term "table fee" is an industry term and can be confusing- but it means a cost per player, rather than a cost per table. This includes bringing your own games to sit and play, and playing from our board game or retro gaming library. Events also have a cost, and the price varies depending on what is included in the event.

Will you have sensory-friendly hours?

We don't have sensory-friendly hours, but we don't play music in the shop, the coffee machine is separate from the main floor (so a bit quieter), and staff will always be easily identifiable. If a quieter and darker space is needed, we are happy to offer the sensory room.

A sensory toy basket is always available for people to use while in the shop too :) It's located in the sensory room, but feel free to move the basket anywhere in the shop that you'd like to use it.

We also hold sensory-friendly events, such as neurodivergent meetups.

If you come into the shop and something isn't quite right for you, please let us know and we are happy to try to accommodate you in whatever way we can.

What are your opening hours?

Our hours are:

Monday-Tuesday: Closed

Wednesday-Friday: 1pm-10pm

Saturdays: 11am-10pm

 Sundays: 11am-6pm

How does online shopping work?

We currently offer click & collect in our shop in Skerries.

We don't do deliveries at the moment, but we may in the future👀

What if I want a product you don't have?

We are a new shop, so please let us know if there is something you would like us to try to find for you that we don't currently have. We will do our best to get it!

Do you run any RPGs in the shop?

RPGs can be organised through our Discord channel. When you find a group to play with, or already have a group and would like to book, send us a message at info@otterspace.ie to book the room. The RPG room can accommodate up to 6 players max. If you need more space, let us know and we can arrange a place on the main floor with a privacy screen. The cost to play a 1-3 hour RPG in the shop is €10 per person with the GM/DM playing for free.

We also do D&D for kids as part of our after school programs. For more information, visit our events page to see what we currently have on offer.

Do you have any programs or events for children and teens?

Absolutely! We run an after school board game club, art club, and D&D club. We do midterm camps, and also occassional special events. Classes, scouts, and clubs are also welcome to come and play as a group. All Otter space staff and faciliators that work with children are garda-vetted.

For groups, please contact us at info@otterspace.ie in advance so we can make sure there are enough tables available.

What program or events will you have for adults?

We have trading card competitions and tournaments, casual board game mixers, neurodivergent meetups, special events, Blood on the Clocktower, and more!

Will you have Pokémon?

We definitely plan to sell Pokémon, but they've been quite difficult for us to get our hands on at the moment (it's been hard to catch them all ;)

We will set up leagues eventually too and will keep you updated.

Do you have a lift?

There is indeed a lift, but unfortunately it is not accessible to the public at the moment. We have been waiting since we've opened for access to the lift to be completed, so unfortunately we ony have stairs for now.
